On a Silver Platter

Adding a Touch of Old-School Glamour

As we head into the warmer months and enjoy longer days, it’s the perfect season to embrace our inner host and gather friends and loved ones around the table. My social media feeds are brimming with hosting ideas and inspiring tablescapes — and one trend keeps catching my eye: the shimmering, stylish return of silver.

In an era dominated by minimalist plating and rustic wooden boards, silver platters are making a sparkling comeback, bringing a sense of old-school glamour and timeless elegance to your dining table. Once a staple of grand banquets and formal dinners, these gleaming trays are reemerging as a statement piece for modern hosts.

Their inherent ability to reflect light, drawing attention to the colours and textures of the food they carry make them a captivating showpiece. Whether piled high with fresh oysters or layered with delicate pastries, silver adds a sense of sophistication that few other materials can match.

Beyond aesthetics, silver platters evoke a nostalgic charm — a connection to a bygone era of opulence. Incorporating them today can transform even a casual spread into something memorable, blending tradition with contemporary flair. Many hosts are mixing antique pieces with modern table settings, creating a striking contrast between old and new.

Thankfully there are many options to consider and below are some of my favourite finds. Do note most options these days are silver-plated brassware or copper (as opposed to real silver) on the higher end and affordable options coming in a variety of styles are made in stainless steel which is equally amazing saving you from all that polishing!

  1. Soho House's Mews Serving Stand £495
  2. Drift Serving Tray by Robert Welch £75
  3. Zara Home Silver Tray from £79.99
  4. Argon Serving Dish at Wayfair from £7.99
  5. Double Bowl Stand by Anatolia Craft on Wolf & Badger £103

Another amazing source for vintage silver-coated or stainless steel serveware is Etsy! My favourite shops include Genie Of The Attic, To and Fro Goods and Vintage Anya.

Time to shine peeps!
